ATIS puts a high priority on student attendance. It is important for students to be in school in a consistent routine of study and participation in school activities. This is the best way to build a strong academic record and to establish the reputation of involvement and responsibility. Students who are absent are expected to bring a written excuse from a parent or guardian upon their return to school. MS/HS students give these excuses to one of the reception staff and are given a sheet to present to each teacher that day. Elementary students bring notes to their homeroom teachers. An absence of two days or more for an illness requires a note from a doctor. A doctor’s statement is necessary if a student misses a semester or final exam because of illness. Students who do not bring in excuses within 3 school days following an absence will automatically receive a zero for homework and class work missed. If a student is absent more than two consecutive days, an explanation call from a parent is expected. Homework assignments can be obtained and forwarded home. Parents will be contacted and disciplinary action may be taken when students are repeatedly tardy for school and classes. ATTENDANCE CONTRACTS AND POLICY (MS/HS only) Students who have had several questionable absences or tardies during a quarter may be placed on an “Attendance Contract”. This means that a parent may be required to telephone the office of the School Director every time their student is legitimately absent.
