Elementary School National Day Celebrations
National Day and Liberation Day are very special occasions for all Kuwaitis and the Arabic Department organized a huge celebration for our students on Feb 20th.
Students came dressed in their colorful national costumes and were treated to a variety of items from all grade levels. There were dances, poems written by one of the Arabic Staff, a play based on the 1990 invasion, and a variety of songs. An added bonus was the visit of Barney and two of his friends who certainly added to the flag waving and the general excitement.
The KG department celebrated this day with a special assembly in the morning where they too dressed in national costume. As you can imagine, the little ones in particular looked lovely.
It is important that we celebrate our National Day and we are very appreciative of the organization by the Arabic Staff and in particular Mr. Riyad, and of course our parents. Without the effort of dressing the children in their national costumes the day would not have been nearly so successful. Thank you all.
Middle and High School National Day Celebration
The Middle and High School students and staff celebrated National Day on Thursday 21st Feb, the last school day before the official holiday. The PAC was transformed into a magnificent sea of Kuwaiti artifacts with old photos, ceremonial swords, model ships, clothing and other assorted memorabilia in display worthy of a museum. For a short time there were even two sheep but the occasion was too much for them.
The atmosphere was enhanced by the students all being dressed in Kuwaiti attire, a wide selection of food, and formal entertainment including the national anthem, readings from the Quran, a short movie about Kuwait and the recitation of Kuwaiti poetry and proverbs. My highlight was the Grade 9 boys in the Dewaniya with their drum accompanied performance of a traditional sea chant.
