KG Graduation Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 saw our KG2 students graduating prior to their move upstairs to the Elementary Department and Grade 1. This is always a very special time for the children and their parents as they see their children moving out of KG. It is also a sad time for the teachers and assistants who have invested a lot of their time into ensuring they are providing the best possible education for these young children. We were delighted with the turn out of parents, family and friends for both events and we would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone who has been involved in the education of these students while they have been in KG, for all your support, encouragement and help over the last two year. The next few months now provide these children with a chance to relax, enjoy their time with you, the parents, as they prepare for Grade 1 in September. We trust you enjoy the special time that holidays bring with your family. KG1 Production Sunday May 25, after a number of postponements, we were finally able to present to the parents of KG1, our youngest children in their annual production. This year the theme was the Barn Yard and we were all treated to wonderful stories and songs involving a very wide range of barn yard animals. As always our KG1 students were very cute on stage. We always expect to expect the unexpected however this year, the program went off very well with the children not only looking wonderful but also sounding and performing in an excellent manner. A special thank you to all the teachers, assistants and Ms Jill for the many hours put in to this production and we would especially like to thank you the parents for your support. On behalf of the KG1 team, we would all like to wish you a wonderful time with your children over the summer break. Visit of CITA Re-Accreditation Team This week we welcome a group of educators from CITA, the international accrediting board that has accredited A'Takamul International School. It is normal practice that after a number of years of being an accredited school , that the school receives a visit to reassess the progress being made within the school, the standard of education being provided and the various procedures which are in place within the school. This visit follows a very detailed self study which has been conducted by our school staff. During this study we have looked closely at all aspects of A'Takamul International School from the curriculum to facilities to the general running of A'Takamul. The visiting team will spend three days in the school talking to IPE, staff, students and parents. They will spend considerable time visiting classrooms, observing lessons, talking to senior management and generally re-evaluating what we do on a daily basis. We look forward to the final report from CITA as we view this process as being an excellent opportunity for us to evaluate our own school, look at our strengths and also assess areas that we need to address. Middle School ICT EXPO Teachers will be redundant! Quarter-3 Report Cards GO home Quarter 3 Report Cards will go home on 27th April, 2008 for Middle and High School students. Parents please sign and return the envelope to homeroom teachers this week. Elementary Sports Day Result After having to postpone our sports days in February this year, we were delighted to finally hold these two events last week. KG – Grade 2 had a magnificent day for their sports day at Mishrief Park and we were delighted to see so many parents attending to support their children. All the children were fully involved in all the activities and it was wonderful to see their various athletic skills on display. In the Grade 1 and 2 competition for the best house, the winners this year were the Blue house and our congratulations go out to them. Grade 3-5 had a nice day to begin with but unfortunately the day was spoilt somewhat with another dust storm coming in. Fortunately we were able to complete the various events and the winners for the house cup this year were Yellow. Again we would like to thank the parents who came to support their children. Finally we would like to thank the PE staff for their hard work and organization for both sports days, these days always require a lot of planning to ensure a successful day. A’Takamul’s Young Scientists We were proud to have on show recently, our Grade 4 and 5 young scientists who presented their exhibits at the annual Elementary Science Fair. The students had worked for some considerable time on their exhibits and it was encouraging to see the depth of understanding they had gained from their investigations. Everyone was impressed with the manner in which the students presented their findings both in display form and in the oral explanations of their projects. We would like to take this opportunity of thanking the parents who took time out to visit the science fair and all parents for the support you provided your children for this activity. The Islamic dept organized a day camp and at 8.00 about eighty boys and ten teachers climbed into a convoy of buses and cars and drove off into the desert at the camping area at Jahra. Shaikh Talal and Mr Diab organized a series of activities that included a lovely hot breakfast soon after arrival. After that there were competitions between groups at tug-of –war which was highlighted by the rope breaking, car pushing which was always won by Mr. Ian’s car because he had the engine running, and balloon breaking competitions. It was exciting! After the morning competitions we had some free time when most of the teachers went off to the Diwaniya for a sleep but the boys explored the desert, caught lizards, played volleyball and soccer and generally had a relaxing time before and after lunch. Between Aser and Mahgreb prayer there was a major football competition amongst four teams and then we relaxed with a very interesting guest speaker, Dr. Waleed, who led a discussion on Islamic values that included a short presentation by Yousif Al-Ali of Grade 12. Isha prayer at 7.00 was followed by dinner and in the quiet of the evening we completed the day with a series of volleyball games that left us ready for a nice snooze on the buses on way home after 9.00.
