Students who have had several questionable absences or tardies during a quarter may be placed on an “Attendance Contract”. This means that a parent may be required to telephone the office of the School Director every time their student is legitimately absent.

Notice of early withdrawal from school should be made at least two weeks prior to departure. All books must be turned in, and financial clearance must be made at the school office before records can be released.

If withdrawal is expected a few days prior to the end of the semester, parents are asked to notify the school in writing as soon as possible so that the official transcript can be prepared. Withdrawing students may not be absent more than 5 days in any quarter in order to gain credit. A student who will miss more than 5 days in a quarter will receive “W” or “withdrawing” grades, and it will be at the discretion of the gaining school how they accept those grades.

Parents must be aware that a student’s day is fully planned! In order for the school to achieve the goals set out for your child, we need them in school. Children should only be removed, before the end of the school day, for pre-arranged medical appointments or other necessities. Signed permission slips must be obtained from the school secretary before students will be allowed to leave the classroom.

EXAMS/GRADES FOR WITHDRAWING MS/HS STUDENTS

When Middle and High School students must withdraw from ATIS prior to the first or second semester period and have at least the minimum attendance in a particular quarter, they are required to arrange for early exams for which a fee is charged. Each teacher will prepare a special exam for the student and a payment of 10 KD for each exam administered must be paid at the Accounting Office prior to sitting for the exam. This would be for a temporary, such as travel, or permanent withdrawal.

RECORDS FOR WITHDRAWING STUDENTS

All records for students withdrawing from ATIS will be ready one week after the last day of school. Students who are leaving the country must leave a mailing address since they cannot have their records on the last day of school. No report cards will be released ahead of the last day for students.

TRANSCRIPTS

Seniors can obtain up to 5 transcripts at no extra cost. Other students are allowed one per school year. Former students and graduates will have to pay 5 KD, which includes postage (for courier delivery, there will be an additional charge), for each transcript, and the Counseling Office will send them only to the gaining school. In exceptional cases for departing students, transcripts can be given directly to the student’s family.

SUMMER SCHOOL (MS/HS and grade 5)

ATIS offers summer school, referred to as “doorthani” for students who have failed an academic course. Any student who fails more than two core courses may be asked to repeat the year. These courses are Mathematics, Social Studies, English, and Science. For these courses, taken to replace a failed course, the maximum attainable grade is 60%. This is to reflect the fact that you are not able to complete the entire course again during the summer. Any other courses taken during a summer, which are offered during the normal school year, are for enrichment only and will not count for credit. If the school is not offering a course that is required to be taken, during the summer, only ATIS approved courses are allowed. However, the student must write our exam, we would provide only the syllabus to the other school.

REPORT CARDS (MS/HS only)

A student’s report card is an important record of their accomplishments and progress. As a result, it is extremely important that parents not only receive these, but review them with their children. This year we will issue report cards to students unless parents request, in writing, that they be held for pick up by parents or a designated adult.
